本学期燎原双语学校英文部高中十年级的同学在文学课上学习了墨西哥裔美国作家和诗人桑德拉·希斯内罗丝著名的关于成长的小说《芒果街上的小屋》。绝大多数同学都非常喜欢读这部小说，因为同学们和小说主人公Esperanza年龄相仿而且都在经历成长，所以能找到共鸣。小说体裁新颖，语言简单易懂，这样也让阅读更加轻松有趣。

This semester Grade 10 students at Shanghai Liaoyuan Bilingual School have been studying a very interesting coming-of-age novel The House on Mango Street by Mexican-American novelist and poet Sandra Cisneros in their Literature class. Most students enjoy reading this novel because they can find a connection with the protagonist Esperanza as she grows up. The novel form of vignettes with accessible language level also makes reading fun.

十年级文学课期中小组课题给同学们许多不同的选择，程度地让他们发挥自己的创造力，充分发挥个人兴趣和特长，把他们对于文学作品的理解转化为不同的视觉表现形式，比如“芒果街日报”、“儿童绘本”、“主人公的剪贴簿”、“电影设计”以及“改编表演”等。通过这次的期中课题，同学们不仅非常享受创作的过程，而且锻炼了一系列生活和学习中必需的技能，如团队协作，制定计划，解决问题，有效沟通，组织协调，面对压力等等。

Their Midterm Project includes a variety of options for students to explore their own creativity and personal skills to translate what they have learned into different visual presentations such as “neighbourhood newspaper for Mango Street”, “illustrated children’s book”, “Esperanza’s scrapbook”, “movie proposal” and “making a drama performance”. By doing this project, students not only had fun but also practiced important life and study skills such as teamwork, planning, problem-solving, communication, organisation, dealing with pressure of deadlines, etc.

在燎原的文学课上，老师们鼓励同学们在学习中发展个性，展示创造力，并且享受学习的乐趣。这在同学们的文学期中小组课题制作和成果中得到了充分的体现，同学们也为他们的作品感到非常地自豪。作为他们的文学老师，我也为他们所付出的努力和他们自十年级以来的学习和成长感到无比骄傲。我想借此机会和大家分享他们的精彩创作，希望你们会和我一样喜欢这些作品。

In Literature classes at Liaoyuan, students are encouraged to express their individuality, show their creativity and have fun through learning. This has been demonstrated in students’ works which they are very proud of. As their teacher, I cannot be more proud of their effort and their growth since they first started Grade 10. I would like to share their amazing works with everyone and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
